Telemedicine Q&A

What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine allows you to exchange medical information with your doctor using technologies like the phone or the internet. It provides a quick, convenient, and affordable way to access professional health care, no matter where you’re located.

Thanks to advances in mobile technology, telemedicine is becoming increasingly popular. It saves you the hassle of sitting around in a waiting room and provides direct access to your primary care physician exactly when you need it.

What are the advantages of telemedicine?

Telemedicine provides a variety of advantages. For one, it allows you to meet with your doctor and other specialists from your home. If you have kids or someone else to take care of, you don’t have to worry about finding a babysitter or caretaker.

Telemedicine is also beneficial for people who are immunocompromised. By speaking with your doctor over the phone or computer, you don’t have to expose yourself to other people who might be sick with a contagious illness like the cold or the flu.

Lastly, health insurance provides coverage for most telemedicine services. So, if you have medical insurance, you probably won’t have to pay out of pocket.

What services does telemedicine provide?

The team can use telemedicine to follow up after in-office treatment. For example, if you cut yourself and need stitches, a member of our experienced medical team may schedule a post office visit telemedicine appointment to assess how your cut is healing.

What happens during a telemedicine appointment?

At Marsalis Avenue Urgent Care Clinic, one of our licensed medical providers will conducts a remote exam. For example, if you are experiencing a sore throat, our licensed medical provider might ask you to open your mouth to see if your throat is red, swollen, or irritated.

If the provider is unable to make an accurate diagnosis over the phone or computer, they might schedule an in-office appointment for further examination or additional tests.

After determining the source of your discomfort, our licensed medical provider will make a recommendation(s) regarding your health issue. This might include at-home treatments like rest, drinking plenty of fluids, or taking a prescribed medication(s).
